A series uses a numerical reference (A2-A15) corresponding to matrix hardness, which makes the selection easier (A2 being the hardest matrix, and A15 being the softest matrix).The higher the number, the harder, finer textured, more monolithic,harder and more non-abrasive the rock formation the bit is intended to drill. Conversely, the lower the number selected, the more fractured, coarser textured and abrasive the rock formation for which the corresponding bit is selected.
